Solid Hungarian Grand Prix for Williams

July 31, 2018

A tricky qualifying saw Williams drivers Lance Stroll and Sergey Sirotkin place 15th and 20th respectively on the timesheets after three enthralling dry/wet sessions.

Sirotkin’s efforts were hampered by traffic in Q3 and so his day ended there, while Stroll made it through to Q2, but was caught out by the conditions, damaged his front wing and in worsening conditions the team decided it would be fruitless to attempt to better his time.

Come race day, Stroll was to start from the pitlane having changed his front wing in parc ferme, resulting in Sirotkin’s promotion to 19th for the start.

Both cars made clean getaways and good progress from the off. Stroll, his pace compromised by the old front wing that was fitted to his car, started on the prime tyre with the view to finishing quickly, Sirotkin opting to go in the opposite direction by starting on the soft tyre.

A single pitstop each later and Sirotkin and Stroll finished line astern in 16th and 17th positions respectively.
