Discussions are underway for Williams to use Mercedes gearboxes from next year according to motorsport.com
No doubt spurred on by the team’s current predicament and by the success the Haas Formula 1 team is having while taking as many Ferrari developed and built parts as they are allowed under the current Formula 1 regulations, the move would allow the team to downsize significantly allowing budget and resource to be used elsewhere.
Claire Williams has moved to deny that anything has been agreed thus far, but has confirmed that talks are underway.
It would strengthen the ties between the Williams Formula 1 Team and the AMG Mercedes F1 Team, that could allow one of Mercedes’ junior drivers a seat in Formula 1, should, as rumours might suggest, Lance Stroll moves on at the end of the season.
